My name is Paula, and I’d like to share a little about my journey with Type 1 diabetes.
It all began when I was 12 years old, back in 1996—long before smartphones, apps, and diabetes technology became part of everyday life.
At the time, I was a competitive swimmer, but my training sessions started being interrupted by constant muscle cramps. My energy and strength disappeared, I was always hungry, eating huge meals without ever feeling satisfied, yet I kept losing weight. I was also constantly thirsty. It didn’t take long before the diagnosis came: Type 1 diabetes.
My childhood and teenage years were marked by frustration, sadness, and endless blood glucose fluctuations. Without the internet, access to reliable information was limited, and the outlook for people with Type 1 diabetes wasn’t very encouraging. Although I often appeared to cope well on the outside, deep down I carried a great deal of anger and resentment toward my condition.
As the years went by, my diabetes remained far from controlled. Persistent high blood sugar eventually led to complications, including diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and the first signs of peripheral neuropathy.
After living with Type 1 diabetes for nearly 30 years, I discovered the Medtrum Nano Patch. It completely changed the way I manage my diabetes. For the first time in my life, I experienced what it feels like to have an entire day with stable glucose levels. That had never happened before
I'm grateful to have access to this technology, and I hope that more people living with diabetes around the world will have the opportunity to benefit from automated insulin delivery nano system in the future.
Seeing steady glucose graphs every day gives me something I hadn’t felt in a long time: peace of mind. It fills me with hope for the future and allows me to look forward to many healthy years with my son and my family.
Thank you, Medtrum, for being part of this new chapter in my life.
