What is an insulin patch pump?

An insulin patch pump is a pump that is worn directly on the body, attaching onto the skin via an adhesive and delivering the insulin through a small needle.

How does an insulin patch pump work?

Patch pumps deliver insulin continuously into the body. The patch pump can be controlled wirelessly via Bluetooth through your phone or a separate handset called a Personal Diabetes Manager (PDM).

What are the advantages of using a patch pump?

The Nano pump is small and discreet and can be worn on different parts of your body and under your favorite clothes. There is no tube so no risk of catching it on door handles. As it delivers insulin continuously you do not have to do multiple daily injections which gives you peace of mind to continue with your daily activities.

What are the parts of the Nano Pump?

The Nano Pump is made of two parts: a pump base containing all the electronic components, which you keep, and a reservoir patch containing up to 200 (or 300U) units of insulin (the patch does not come pre-filled).

How often must I change my pump?

Change the reservoir patch up to every 3 days.

What is the volume of the insulin reservoir?

The 200U Nano Pump holds up to 200 units of insulin, and the 300U Nano Pump holds up to 300 units.

How small is the pump?

The 200U pump is the smallest (40.5mm X 31.5mm x 11.5mm) and lightest (13.8g) insulin patch pump currently on the market. The 300U pump measures 50.5 mm X 31.5 mm X 11.5 mm and weighs 14.6 grams.

What are the specifications of the Nano pump needle?

The cannula is a stainless steel needle of 30G, measuring 5mm (0.2 inch) with a 90 degree angle to the skin.

What type of insulin can be used with the Nano patch pump?

It is recommended to use rapid-acting U-100 insulin. The following insulin brands have been tested and found to be safe for use with the patch pump: Humalog, NovoRapid, Apidra, Fiasp, Lyumjev and Insulin lispro Sanofi.

Daily life with the Nano Pump

Where on the body can I wear the Nano patch pump?

The Nano pump can be placed on the abdomen, lower back, buttock, upper arm or thigh, 5.0 cm (2 inches) away from the navel. Apply the patch horizontally on the abdomen, back or buttocks, and vertically on the upper arm or thigh. Avoid belt lines, curved or rigid areas, and areas that move rigorously during exercise.

How should I prepare my skin before applying the pump?

Choose a flat area of clean, dry, hair-free skin with enough fat (at least 5 mm) that stays flat during normal daily activities. Avoid skin with scars, tattoos or irritation.

Do I need to rotate my infusion sites?

Yes. Place each new infusion site at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) away from the last site and from the sensor.

Do I have to disconnect the patch pump to swim?

No. The patch pump is waterproof to a depth of 2.5 meters (8 feet) for up to 60 minutes (IP28). You can swim with the patch pump on.

Can I play sports while wearing my patch pump?

Yes. The patch pump is worn directly on the skin with no tubing to catch or pull, so it stays out of the way during sport. Choose a wear site away from areas that flex or take impact during your activity, make sure the adhesive is pressed down firmly before you start, and check the patch afterwards. For contact sports or long sessions, an adhesive overlay adds security.

How do I keep the patch secure during wear?

Apply to clean, dry skin free of lotion or oil, press the adhesive down firmly around the whole edge, and choose a site that stays flat during your daily activities. Apply sunscreen only outside the patch site, leaving 2-3 cm around the sticky edges. For water sessions over 60 minutes or ocean swims, an adhesive overlay adds protection.

What should I do if sweat makes my patch edges lift?

Prevention works best: clean the skin with an alcohol wipe and let it dry completely before applying; a skin barrier wipe can improve adhesion. If the patch has already started to lift, replace it rather than pressing it back down, because a lifted edge lets water and dirt in.

Should I remove my patch pump if I am going for X-Rays, MRIs or CT scans?

Yes, remove your patch pump before the examination. The TouchCare System may be affected by strong radiation or magnetic fields: put the pump outside the treatment area with your PDM, and apply a new Reservoir Patch after the test or procedure is completed.

Can I use my pump and CGM in a hot tub, sauna or hot spring?

No. Hot tubs sit at the top of the devices operating range and saunas go well beyond it, and steam and prolonged soaking weaken the adhesive quickly. Plan a visit for a patch-change day instead: remove the old patch, then clean and dry your skin before applying a new one. No case or overlay changes the temperature limits.

Controlling the pump

How do I control my pump from my phone?

You will need to download our EasyPatch App onto your phone (iPhone or Android) and connect it to your pump each time you change your pump. It is quick, easy and very discreet to check your trends or do a bolus using your phone. If you prefer to use your PDM you can connect it to our EasyTouch App.

What happens if I am separated from my phone or PDM?

Background (basal) insulin delivery continues even when the pump is out of range of the PDM or the EasyPatch App, so routine delivery is not interrupted.

What bolus options does the pump offer?

The built-in bolus calculator supports normal, extended, and combo boluses depending on your food and activity. Boluses are delivered remotely from the PDM or the EasyPatch App.

Can I suspend or pause insulin delivery?

Yes. You can set multiple basal rates including zero rates and temporary basal rates, and insulin delivery can be completely suspended for up to 2 hours.

What is a CGM?

Continuous glucose monitoring measures glucose in the interstitial fluid through a small sensor worn under the skin, giving trends and patterns day and night rather than single point-in-time readings.

What are the parts of the Nano CGM?

The Nano CGM has two parts: a sensor, a tiny flexible polymer-based electrode inserted just under the skin that uses an enzyme to measure glucose in the interstitial fluid, and a rechargeable transmitter that attaches to the sensor and sends readings to your phone or handset every 2 minutes.

What is the size of the Nano CGM?

The Nano CGM measures 28.3 mm x 17.8 mm x 5.2 mm and weighs 2.7 g.

Can I use the Nano CGM on its own without the pump?

Yes. You can wear the Nano CGM as standalone using the EasySense App; no pump is required.

Wearing the sensor

How do I insert the Medtrum Nano CGM glucose sensor?

Unlock the safety lock of the sensor, then remove the protective liner from the sensor base and locate the sensor support mount. Next, insert the sensor into the appropriate position, after which remove the inserter and check the sensor base to confirm it is properly placed.

Where on the body can I wear the sensor?

The Nano CGM can be placed on the upper arm, approximately 2.5 cm (1 inch) away from the insulin infusion site. Choose a flat area of clean, dry, hair-free, uncovered skin with enough fat (at least 5mm).

Do I have to disconnect the sensor to swim?

No. The sensor (with a transmitter properly installed) is waterproof to a depth of 2.5 meters (8 feet) for up to 60 minutes (IP28). You can swim with the sensor and transmitter on.

How often must I replace my sensor?

The Nano CGM can be worn up to 14 days. You will get 14 day data storage and no data lost with auto-recovery if separated from your receiver.

What is the shelf life of the CGM?

Glucose sensors have a one-year expiration date from the time they are manufactured. The expiration date is on the outside of the glucose sensor box and on each individual glucose sensor package.

Should I remove my CGM if I am going for X-Rays, MRIs or CT scans?

Yes. Remove your CGM before the examination, as the TouchCare System may be affected by strong radiation or magnetic fields. Put the sensor and transmitter outside the treatment area with your PDM, and insert a new sensor once the test or procedure is complete.

How should I store my sensors?

The sensors can be stored at temperatures between 2C and 30C, relative humidity between 20%RH and 90%RH, and atmospheric pressure between 700hPa and 1060hPa. You do not have to refrigerate the sensors, but if you keep them in the refrigerator, allow approximately 15 minutes for the sensor to warm up to room temperature before using it. Glucose sensors must not be frozen.

Readings, calibration and alerts

How often are glucose readings sent?

The transmitter automatically sends a glucose reading to your receiver every 2 minutes, no scanning required.

What are the highest and lowest glucose readings?

Sensor glucose reading range is from 2.2-22.2 mmol/L (40 mg/dL - 400 mg/dL).

Why are the CGM readings different from my meter readings sometimes?

Glucose sensors measure your interstitial glucose level while blood glucose meters measure your plasma blood glucose level. Most of the time glucose travels first to your blood and then to your interstitial fluid. Because of how glucose travels, your BG meter readings and sensor glucose readings will rarely match exactly. This is quite normal. When using your CGM, you should concentrate on trends and patterns instead of individual values.

Do I need to calibrate the Nano CGM?

The Nano CGM is factory calibrated. If you have entered the sensor code successfully, the system will not require calibration. You can still calibrate the sensor if you like. If you choose not to enter the sensor code, you must calibrate your sensor twice on the first day.

What alerts and predictive alerts are available?

You can personalise your glucose targets and receive alerts when glucose is trending high or low. Predictive alerts warn you up to 30 minutes before a predicted high or low.

Which phones and watches are compatible with the CGM?

The system is compatible with various Android and iOS devices, including Apple Watch (via the EasySense App). See the Compatible Device list for current models.

Can dehydration affect my sensor readings?

Heavy sweating without enough fluid can concentrate the interstitial fluid your sensor measures, which may cause readings to drift from your blood glucose value; dehydration also releases stress hormones that can raise blood sugar. If your symptoms do not match the sensor, confirm with a finger prick.

What is the TouchCare Nano System?

The TouchCare Nano System is Medtrum's automated insulin delivery (AID) system: the Patch Pump and CGM working together under the APGO AID algorithm as a hybrid closed-loop system.

Can I connect my pump to a CGM?

Yes, you can connect the Nano pump to the Nano CGM for better control and management of your diabetes, including customizing your alerts and alarms to warn you before a high or low state.

What benefits do I get by using both the Nano pump and Nano CGM together?

Connecting the two enables Auto Mode. The system automatically adjusts your basal insulin and delivers correction doses to keep glucose near your target, and Auto Meal Handling lets you announce a meal with a tap instead of counting carbohydrates.

How does Auto Mode adjust my insulin?

Auto Mode automatically adjusts basal delivery 24/7 and delivers correction insulin for highs: less insulin when glucose is trending low, more when it is trending high, toward your customisable sensor glucose target.

Do I still have to count carbs with the Nano System?

No, Auto Meal Handling frees you from complex daily carb counting, with automatic meal bolus delivery at a simple tap.

Which apps does Medtrum offer?

What can I do with EasyPatch App?

What smart devices are compatible with the Medtrum EasyPatch App? How can I download the app?

How can I register an account on the Medtrum EasySense App?

How do I connect my CGM and Pump with the EasyPatch App?

To connect your CGM: go to Settings > CGM, tap Add Transmitter, scan the QR code or enter the transmitter SN, then tap Connect Sensor. To connect your patch pump: go to Settings > Insulin Delivery, tap Add Pump Base SN, scan the QR code or enter the pump base SN, then tap New Patch and follow the on-screen instructions.

What must I do if I want to receive sensor and pump data on the smart device?

Settings checklist for the EasyPatch App: Bluetooth on; Silent and Do Not Disturb off; volume audible; allow WLAN and mobile data; grant camera access; turn on notifications; do not change the device time; do not activate battery-saving mode; keep the app running (and locked) in the background; restart the app after the device restarts; on iOS enable background refresh; on Android allow location access for Bluetooth; on Samsung enable auto-run.

Data sharing and storage

Can family or carers follow my data?

Yes. The EasyFollow App lets an unlimited number of followers view your real-time pump and CGM information and receive real-time alarm and alert notifications.

Can my healthcare team see my data?

Yes. Data uploads automatically and can be shared remotely with your healthcare professional through the EasyView website, with detailed reports on insulin delivery, glucose trends and logged events.

How long will my data be saved for?

The transmitter stores data for 14 days, the controller (PDM or App) stores data for 90 days, and data uploaded to EasyView is stored for 2 years.

Where is the sensor data stored?

Sensor data is stored on whichever controller you use. Most people control the system with the EasyPatch App, so their data is stored on their phone; if you use the PDM instead, it is stored there. When your controller is out of range, readings are held in the transmitter and sent across once the connection recovers, so no sensor data is lost.

Travelling and flying

What should I prepare when travelling with my pump?

Pack roughly twice the supplies you expect to need, including spare patches, sensors and a backup insulin pen, and keep everything in your cabin bag. Check the security rules for your departure and destination airports before you go, and ask your healthcare team for a letter describing your device if you are travelling internationally.

Can I take my pump through airport security?

Yes. The Nano pumps can be worn through a walk-through metal detector. However, they must not go through full-body scanners or any other screening machine. If you are directed to one, tell the officer you are wearing a medical device and ask for a pat-down instead.

What if security asks me to remove my device?

Explain that you are wearing a medical device and that removing it could affect your health, then ask for a pat-down instead. Show your documentation — a signed flight card or a letter from your doctor. Officers are not always familiar with patch pumps, and showing signed documentation usually resolves the situation.

Do I need a doctor's letter to fly with an insulin pump?

Documentation is rarely mandatory, but it makes conversations at security and with airline staff much shorter. Medtrum provides an Airport Information card confirming that your pump and CGM meet the standards for medical portable electronic devices and may be used during flight — ask your local team for a copy. A letter from your doctor is also useful, particularly for international trips: ask for one stating your name, your diagnosis, and that you wear an insulin pump and carry medical supplies.

Are Medtrum products the same in every country?

Support, training and warranty

Do I get training when I start on the system?

Yes, training is arranged when you start. But who provides it depends on your country and how you obtained the system. It may be delivered by Medtrum, by your hospital or clinic, or by your local distributor. Contact your local Medtrum team and they will confirm what applies in your market. Where the CGM is bought directly by users, separate training may not be required.

What should I do if my device doesn't work properly?

Contact Medtrum support with your device details. Do not attempt to repair the device yourself.

I use an older TouchCare system - where can I find support for it?

Support and user guides are still available. Contact your local Medtrum team, who can confirm what applies to your product and market.

What is the warranty period of the transmitter?

The TouchCare transmitter has a warranty period of 1 year.
